3/9/2023 0 Comments J line deco![]() Thankfully, in all the years I've been a digital artist I've never once had to replace a worn-down pen nib. ![]() The nib pull ring is loose in the packing box. The replacement nibs are simply packaged by themselves in a clear plastic bag that cannot be resealed once opened. Even the cheapest of tablets, both from XP-Pen and their competition, have traditionally included some type of pen stand or case with which to store the pen, nibs and ring pull, but the Deco LW does not include anything. One of the most noticeable cuts is the lack of any type of storage for the stylus, nibs, and ring pull. While the Deco LW tablet feels like a more premium product than a lot of its competitors, it is still ultimately a budget-friendly device, and there are corners that have to be cut to make it hit its price point. While there's little difference between using the device wired or over a Bluetooth connection there does seem to be a tiny delay when making the first stroke almost as if the tablet needs to "wake up." However, all following marks made after that initial delay are lag free even when making large, quick strokes. Surprisingly, the Deco LW feels snappy and responsive overall when being used wirelessly. The current driver software for the Deco LW is very similar to that for the Artist 12 Pro and the Artist 24 Pro, albeit with the inclusion of a battery icon since the LW does need to be charged occasionally if you are using it wirelessly. The driver for the tablet can be downloaded from the XP-Pen website prior to plugging the device in, and then from that point any customization necessary to make using the tablet more comfortable can be done from the driver's UI. ![]() Setting the Deco LW is a quick and painless process. The small nature of the tablet makes it a perfect device for those who want to create digitally while on the go, and the lack of a built-in screen lessens the fear of scratching or damaging the tablet in transit. To use this type of tablet you'll have to draw on the device surface while looking at the result of your markmaking on a separate monitor. One important thing to note about the Deco LW is that while it is very similar in design to the second-generation XP-Pen Artist 12 Pro, the Deco LW tablet does not have a built-in screen. The design of the pen is much more sleek than previous generations, forgoing the chunky tapered grip for a simplified body more like a traditional pen or pencil. This results in nice, smoothly tapered lines and better control of the pen's 8,192 points of pressure overall. This new tech allows for the stylus to have a lower initial activation force meaning, allowing the stylus to be much more sensitive. The new stylus pens included with the Deco LW, and similarly the Artist 12 Pro, feature XP-Pen's new X3 smart chip technology. The included stylus features a customizable rocker button on the barrel of the pen, near the grip. The working area can be rotated via the driver software for use vertically or with the express keys on either the left- or right-hand side. Not only can the shortcut keys be customized, but the driver UI allows for the user to determine the orientation in which they would like to use the tablet, as well. ![]() The front of the Deco LW features eight express keys that the user can customize with the help of XP-Pen's driver software. The work area of the Deco LW is slightly textured, which can make moving the stylus around while drawing feel more natural, like a pen on paper, by providing some resistance for the nib. ![]() The thin and lightweight nature of the tablet shouldn't scare you off, however, as it is still large enough to offer a 10圆 workspace for drawing and note taking. The tablet is incredibly thin - only 8.8mm - and weighs in at just 830g. A similar rubber material makes up four "feet" on the back of the tablet to help with gripping the surface on which it is being used. The Deco LW tablet itself is made of a durable molded plastic with a rubber padding going around the edge of the entire device to help protect it from bumps and scuffs.
